Spencer Strainers solve costly industrial problems
Spencer Machine & Tool first entered the filter market when Glenn Spencer helped a manufacturer of toothpaste develop a filter to replace disposable bags. The following is a list of problems they were having:
- It was costly to maintain and change filters.
- Production had to be stopped periodically for bag removal.
- Disposing of the bags created waste that was costly.
- Employees were hired specifically for changing filters.
- Flow rate was extremely slow due to the inefficiency of bags.
After examining the problems, Glenn Spencer came up with a solution. A self-cleaning filter system that could handle a high flow rate as well as viscosity. It proved to be so successful for this well-known toothpaste maker that the Spencer System was approved for its facilities worldwide.
Recognizing the benefits gained by this revolutionary self-cleaning filter, Spencer looked into other markets such as the production of latex, inks, oils, foods, pharmaceuticals, waste oils, waste water and various chemicals. He realized there was a definite need for a self-cleaning filter that will last a lifetime in these products.
The next major customer was a manufacturer of oil based stains. The problems were very similar to that of toothpaste, especially when it came to the cost of disposing their filter bags. However, a new problem of hazardous waste was a concern when workers were to change the bags. The employees were at risk of exposure to V.O.C.S., causing major concerns from employees as well as management. The System was so successful in reducing cost as well as risk, it was recommended to their other plants across the United States.
Many food manufactures have experimented with the Spencer Strainer System in the past and have succeeded in replacing static screens that require maintenance and causes crucial downtime in production. In fact, a pizza sauce manufacturer replaced all of his static screens with ONE Spencer Strainer System.
Now the plant runs production 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no downtime or maintenance problems.
